When a guy over 40 thinks of massage therapy, he may think that it is not necessary or too costly. Thoughts of entering a day spa and being the only male, gives him second thoughts. But nowadays, you can easily get a professional massage without costing you an arm or a leg or feel that you are doing something seedy. In fact, you can have a massage therapist come to your home or where you are vacationing.

I believe that massage therapy is one of the best holistic approaches to seek out for men over 40 years old. More and more it is seen as a way of promoting mental and physical health. A recent consumer study sponsored by AMTA indicates that 88 percent of individuals view massage therapy as beneficial to overall health and wellness.

Some specific Physical benefits include:

  • Boost Immune systems

Massage can boost the immune system by increasing the activity of natural killer cells and promoting the production of white blood cells, which can help to fight off infections.

  • Nerve pain/joint inflammation
  • Sports injuries
  • Temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders
  • Poor circulation is very common for men over 40. Pain, numbness, tingling or cold in the parts of your body are symptoms of bad circulation. It can affect your legs, hands, fingers, feet and toes.

Massage therapy can stimulate blood flow and circulation, which can help to improve overall health and reduce the risk of certain conditions such as high blood pressure or heart disease.

  • Muscle stiffness

Older adults may experience muscle tension and pain due to conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, or injuries. Massage can help to reduce pain and improve flexibility and range of motion or flexibility.

Some Mental benefits of massage include:

  • Lower Stress/ Anxiety/Depression

As we age, it is common to experience stress and anxiety related to physical or emotional changes. Massage can help to alleviate stress and promote relaxation, which can lead to improved mental health.

  • Better quality of sleep

As our lives get more complicated, you may have trouble sleeping due to physical or emotional issues. Massage therapy can help to promote better sleep by reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

You are in the Driver’s Seat

The great thing about having a professional massage therapist is that you are in the driver’s seat. You are the one calling the shots. You can discuss areas that you want to work on that you are having problems with. Be honest and open. You have a vested interest in your health. For example, you may tell the therapist that you want a lighter pressure on a sensitive area or to work with more pressure where there maybe knots to prevent you from being flexible. As we age, flexibility is so important.

There are so many types of massages that you should never get bored.
